Why GCr15 remains the industry standard
GCr15 is the most widely used high-carbon chromium bearing steel globally — a material with excellent properties [2†L13-L14]:
High uniform hardness across the component after quenching and tempering
Superior wear resistance
High contact fatigue performance
Good cold working plasticity — essential for precision machining
Heat treatment: Where wear resistance is forged
Heat treatment determines final bearing quality. Our process parameters include heating to 855-875℃, soaking for 50-70 minutes, followed by a salt bath isothermal quench at 220-240℃ before final tempering [2†L5-L7]. This yields a final hardness of HRC 60-62, consistent with durability specifications.
For larger bearing rings, we apply extended tempering to relieve residual stresses. The resulting microstructure — lower bainite and carbides — delivers optimal hardness with sufficient toughness for demanding cyclic loads.

The bearing industry is evolving beyond GCr15. Carbonitriding heat treatment combined with new alloys doubles operating life in heavy-duty conditions [3†L13-L16]. High‑nitrogen X30CrMoN15 offers superior corrosion resistance for aerospace applications [3†L29-L34]. Bearing carriages increasingly substitute aluminum alloy for steel to achieve excellent stiffness-to-weight ratios [3†L40-L42].
